Flame-retardant Compounds

Firefighting plane ejecting water

Due to increasing safety requirements and new future-proof technologies in the fields of E&E, e-mobility and public transportation, flame-retardant materials are becoming more and more important. AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH supports the markets with a customized portfolio of flame-retardant products, all free of red phosphorus, halogenated flame retardants and PFAS-containing anti-drip agents. We always keep an eye on the latest technologies and regulatory changes so that we can offer you innovative and future-proof solutions. Our portfolio includes the following product groups:

AKROMID® FR: PA6, PA66, PA66/PA6-Blend, PA9T

AKROTEK® FR: PK - Polyketone

AKROLOY® FR: PARA - Polyarylamide

PRECITE® FR: PBT

AKROLEN® FR: PP

Flame-retardant materials are often used in electronic devices. It is therefore necessary to pay particular attention to electro-chemical corrosion. All flame-retardant materials from AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH are halogen-free. This applies not only to the flame retardants, but also to the heat stabilizers used, thus allowing solutions that prevent corrosion on micro-processors as a result of unfavourable stabilization systems. In addition, better electrical properties can be achieved compared to halogenated flame retardant systems, which is reflected in higher CTI values and makes it possible to use them in the field of high-voltage components.

Electro-neutral materials with a specified halogen content are particularly in demand in the field of battery management. AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH offers special EN compounds (EN = electro-neutral) for this purpose, which guarantee halogen contents <10 ppm (for bromine + iodine) thanks to technical formulation and production measures. AKROMID® B28 GF 35 FR EN black (7484) is therefore the perfect solution for battery housings with a component thickness >1.6 mm. If a guaranteed EN quality is not explicitly required, we refer to the AKROMID® B28 GF 35 9 FR black (8189).

Flowability

Numerous reinforced and flame-retardant products in the AKROMID® range based on PA6, PA 6.6 or PA blends are characterized by easy processability and good surface properties. Combined with good long-term heat stability and outstanding mechanical properties, AKROMID® B28 GF 25 9 FR natural (8066) and its UL-listed V0 classification at 1.6 mm is suitable for applications in e-mobility.

Impact strength

For applications with high demands on mechanical properties, glass fiber-reinforced, flame-retardant polyamides are preferred, usually with 25% or 30% glass fibers. However, flame retardants reduce the mechanical properties of the compound. Thanks to our many years of experience with highly reinforced materials and our gentle treatment of the glass fibers during processing, we are able to produce flame-retardant materials with higher mechanical properties than our competitors.

Specialities

For high-end parts which need very high mechanical properties and outstanding dimensional stability AKRO-PLASTIC offers different flame-retardant grades based on special polyamide raw materials.

High mechanical properties over a wide temperature range, low moisture uptake and excellent surface – these requirements are perfectly matched by AKROLOY® PARA GF 35 FR (7496). With a tensile modulus of 14500 MPa and a tensile strength of 200 MPa this material offers more freedom to design mechanically stressed, flame retardant parts.

AKROLOY® PARA

AKROMID® T9 GF 15 FR LA black (8197) is suitable for high-temperature applications in the automotive sector or in mechanical engineering, which also require high rigidity and strength at temperatures above 120 °C. AKROMID® T9 is based on a PA 9T homopolymer and has low moisture absorption and good media resistance. The above-mentioned grade achieves fire classification UL 94 V0 from 0.8 mm, CTI 600V and is laser-markable. Applications in the high-voltage sector

The flame-retardant and heat-stabilized compound AKROMID® C3 GF 25 1 FR, specially developed for components in the high-voltage sector (HV connectors, busbars or housings), is listed to UL94 in all colours, including RTI listing. AKROMID® C3 GF 25 1 FR orange (7854) similar to RAL 2003 has good color stability when exposed to heat.

Polyketone with 30% glass fibres and halogen free flame retardant similar to RAL 2003

AKROTEK® PK-VM GF 30 FR orange (8537) is a Polyketone with 30% glass-fibers and flame retardant free of halogens similar to RAL 2003. This grade meets the highest requirements for flammability such as UL94 V0 at 0,8 and electrical properties such as CTI of 600 V. This grade is optimized to the requirements of larger processing windows. Engineered for injection moulding this material can also be 3D-printed using pellet extrusion in large scale additive manufacturing.
