Flame-retardant without PFAS

Due to increasing safety requirements and new future-proof technologies in the fields of E&E, e-mobility and public transportation, flame-retardant materials are becoming more and more important. AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH supports the markets with a customized portfolio of flame-retardant products, all free of red phosphorus, halogenated flame retardants, antimony trioxide and PFAS-containing anti-drip agents. We always keep an eye on the latest technologies and regulatory changes so that we can offer you innovative and future-proof solutions. Our portfolio includes the following product groups:
AKROMID® FR: PA6, PA66, PA66/PA6-Blend
AKROMID® T91 FR: PA9T
AKROTEK® FR: PK - Polyketone
AKROLOY® FR: PARA - Polyarylamide
PRECITE® FR: PBT
Flame-retardant materials are often used in electronic devices. It is therefore necessary to pay particular attention to electro-chemical corrosion. All flame-retardant materials from AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH are halogen-free. This applies not only to the flame retardants, but also to the heat stabilizers used, thus allowing solutions that prevent corrosion on micro-processors as a result of unfavourable stabilization systems. In addition, better electrical properties can be achieved compared to halogenated flame retardant systems, which is reflected in higher CTI values and makes it possible to use them in the field of high-voltage components.
Electro-neutral materials with a specified halogen content are particularly in demand in the field of battery management. AKRO-PLASTIC GmbH offers special EN compounds (EN = electro-neutral) for this purpose, which guarantee halogen contents <10 ppm (for bromine + iodine) thanks to technical formulation and production measures. AKROMID® B28 GF 35 FR EN black (7484) is therefore the perfect solution for battery housings with a component thickness >1.6 mm. If a guaranteed EN quality is not explicitly required, we refer to the AKROMID® B28 GF 35 9 FR black (8189).

Highest mechanical properties
For applications with high demands on mechanical properties, FR compounds containing 25-35% glass fibers are preferred. The presence of a high proportion of flame retardant, which is necessary for a V0 classification at low component thicknesses, negatively impacts the mechanical properties of the compound. Thanks to our many years of experience with highly reinforced materials and our gentle handling of the glass fibers during processing, we are able to produce flame-retardant materials with high mechanical properties.

ICX®-Technology
The ICX® Technology (Innovative Compounding and Extrusion Technology), developed jointly with our mechanical engineering and sister company FEDDEM GmbH & Co. KG, contributes to ensuring consistently high quality, regardless of location. This technology includes identical machine and peripheral technology, as well as standardized processes at all production sites.

AKROLOY® PARA - for highest demands on mechanics and flammability
High mechanical properties across a wide temperature range, low moisture absorption and excellent surface finishes – these requirements are perfectly met by AKROLOY® PARA GF 35 FR (7496). With a tensile modulus of 14,500 MPa and a tensile strength of 190 MPa, this material offers greater freedom in the design of mechanically stressed, flame-retardant components. The product has a UL94 V0 classification for component thicknesses of 0.4 mm and above, excellent GWIT values, and a high CTI of 600 V. It is suitable as a replacement for components made of thermoset materials. Moreover it is the perfect candidate for thermal runaway requirements.

AKROMID® T9 - flame retardant, low corrosion PPA
AKRO-Plastic GmbH offers various flame-retardant high-temperature polyamide solutions based on a PA9T homopolymer, which is characterized by its low moisture absorption and high chemical resistance.
Our AKROMID® T91 GF 30 FR black (8184) is the product for thin-walled E&E components that require very high flowability, low moisture absorption, and high heat resistance. In addition, the material meets UL94 V0 standards for all colors starting at 0.4 mm thickness and is ideal for SMT components where blistering during the reflow soldering process must be avoided. The product performs very well in terms of corrosion resistance, which leads to significantly less wear on injection molding machines, especially in the area of flame-retardant high-temperature polyamides.
The portfolio includes AKROMID® T9 GF 15 FR LA black (8197), which was developed for high-temperature applications in the automotive sector or mechanical engineering that require high stiffness and strength at temperatures above 120°C. This grade achieves the UL94 V0 flame classification from 0.8 mm and a CTI value of 600 V.

Flame retardant compounds with RTI listing
The relative temperature index (RTI) is a measure of the thermal aging resistance of polymers and a common value in the E&E industry.
Our halogen-free, heat-stabilized, flame-retardant AKROMID® C3 GF 25 1 FR natural (7208) is a PA66/PA6 blend with UL94 V0 listing for all colors starting at 0.8 mm component thickness and exhibits excellent RTI values. The material has a CTI value of 600 V and is also characterized by very good flow properties and attractive component surfaces. The product is also available in RAL 7035 with laser marking capability (AKROMID® C3 GF 25 1 FR grey (8803)). If you are looking for a more sustainable solution, we recommend our biomass-balanced AKROMID® NEXT C3 GF 25 1 FR grey (8803BMBCI).
AKROTEK® PK-VM GF 30 FR natural (8448) is a flame-retardant polyketone that offers high dimensional stability, very good chemical resistance, high ductility, and excellent electrical properties. The product is also UL listed with UL94 V0 from 0.8 mm and RTI values. The product has significantly lower CO2 emissions than polyamides. Engineered for injection moulding this material can also be 3D-printed using pellet extrusion in large scale additive manufacturing.
