Resource conservation and waste prevention at AKRO-PLASTIC 

Resource conservation and the prevention of waste are central components of our environmental strategy at AKRO-PLASTIC. We continuously work to minimize material consumption and scrap, and to use raw materials as efficiently as possible. Through our technical expertise, we reduce scrap and carefully separate unavoidable waste. 
As a DIN EN ISO 14001 certified company, we record, sort, and dispose of all waste according to clearly defined environmental standards. These processes are regularly verified through external audits and further developed in the spirit of continuous improvement. 

Scrap prevention for reduced resource demand 

We rely on targeted measures to reduce scrap and use raw materials more efficiently. If a predefined scrap and off-spec batch rate is achieved, production-related employees receive 50% of the saved raw material costs as a bonus. Through this, we promote active engagement for resource efficiency and create transparency. 

Responsible disposal and close cooperation with specialized companies 

AKRO-PLASTIC avoids the landfilling of waste wherever possible. Instead, we work closely with specialized waste management companies to find the best possible and environmentally sound solution for every type of waste. Waste that cannot be materially recycled is thermally utilized to recover energy and conserve resources. Any resulting residues, such as slag, must then generally be landfilled.  

Material reuse and preservation of value creation

Whenever possible, we reuse start-up granulates. We also direct potential off-spec production specifically back into suitable markets within the value chain. This preserves the material quality of our engineering compounds. 

We consistently align with circular economy principles 

By using secondary materials, we can reliably meet customer requirements. To the extent that primary-fossil raw materials are replaced as a result, this can contribute to a reduction in the use of raw materials from primary-fossil sources, depending on the material and application.   

Operation clean sweep 

In May 2025, AKRO-PLASTIC signed the pledge of the Operation Clean Sweep initiative. By doing so, we commit to the initiative's goals of preventing the release of plastics into the environment. To achieve this, we are implementing concrete measures throughout our entire production and supply chain. The goal is to consistently avoid the loss of pellets and prevent them from entering the environment.
