Climate change & sustainability: responsibility as a plastics producer
As a responsible plastics producer, we are highly aware of our impact on climate change. We see it as our duty to continuously and measurably reduce this impact.
Carbon footprint in focus: where we take action
Since 2021, we have been systematically calculating our corporate carbon footprint in accordance with the guidelines of the Greenhouse Gas Protocol to precisely identify and reduce emissions. Our analyses show:
Direct emissions (Scope 1): Direct greenhouse gas emissions from our own processes account for less than 1% of our total footprint.
Energy-related emissions (Scope 2): These emissions are also very low (<1%) thanks to our transition to 100% renewable electricity from hydropower back in 2019.
The biggest challenge: our Value Chain (scope 3)
The calculations have clearly shown that the vast majority of our emissions lie in the upstream and downstream activities of our value chain (Scope 3). In particular, purchased goods and services (Scope 3.1) account for a significant share of these indirect emissions. This is where we see the greatest leverage for positive change.
Alternative materials and independent certification
In addition to developing products with a lower carbon footprint, we actively focus on non-primary fossil materials. This includes the use of recyclates (recycled plastics) and bio-based raw materials.
Our efforts are not only driven internally but are also verified externally: We are audited under the recognized ISCC PLUS certification system and undergo annual external audits to ensure the highest sustainability standards in our supply chains.
