The keynote speech by Roman Weißhäupl from Future Candy provided the thematic introduction to the multi-layered meaning of the word combination value / valuable. In his presentation entitled "Success through mistakes", he vividly described the culture of innovation in Silicon Valley, which can be summarized in the following terms run - fall down - get up - keep running.
In his first technical presentation, Sven Terhardt from IGUS focused on the values of reuse and freedom from maintenance through the use of plastics, using the example of a bicycle completely developed in-house.
Afterwards, we learned about the possibilities offered by the still young process of additive manufacturing in the production of complex structural components. Dr. Michael Rieck from AKRO-PLASTIC, Franz Maidl from the BMW Group and Stefan Vogler from M.TEC presented the entire process from the perspectives of material development, manufacturability and simulation.
The first day was rounded off with a visit to the AKRO Competence Center. Here, the participants were able to watch live demonstrations of the processing technologies 3D printing, laser marking and foaming in the injection molding process and receive individual explanations.
The evening was then all about networking over a great barbecue in the monastery restaurant Maria Laach.

The second day began with a look at the standards and regulations in the circular economy. In his presentation "When is a recyclate a recyclate?", Prof. Dr. Hans-Josef Endres from the IKK – Institute of Plastics and Circular Economy at Leibniz Universität Hannover described some of the prevailing conflicts of objectives between incompatible options for action.
In their presentation "Too valuable to waste!", Nanna Milian-Thaulow and Christian Kimer from Trebo, Denmark, presented the highest level of value retention that we can achieve in material recycling. They showed how suitable technology can be used to reintroduce multi-component parts into the production process, both by type and color.
This took us out of the plastics technology field, and Aline Henke from hankensbütteler Kunststoffverarbeitung illustrated the value of our knowledge in her presentation "Unlocking talent: the art of attracting trainees through career guidance". After all, an indispensable pillar of our future is to inspire young people, to whom we pass on our knowledge and thus turn them into highly sought-after specialists.
The conference was concluded by Prof. Dr. Jan Philipp Büchler and Christian Walter from Transformation Trials UG with their presentation "Hidden Champions: How to become? How to stay?". In particular, they emphasized the values of motivation and innovative strength as elementary foundations for successfully mastering transformation and long-term market leadership. This concluded the thematic arc that spanned the entire conference: "VALUABLE in all areas".

We would like to thank all participants and all those involved for a successful and enjoyable event. We are already looking forward to our 16th KUNSTSTOFF-DIA(hr)LOG® on May 20 and 21, 2025.
