Always stay cool
Cooling water diffuser made of AKROMID® B3 GF 30 4 L black (7481)
New materials to save weight
Finding lighter and better components is a constant challenge for car manufacturers and their suppliers. Weight savings can already be achieved through new designs and component geometries. But there is also a lot of potential in the choice of materials.
Stanley Engineered Fastening | Tucker GmbH headquartered in Gießen, Germany, supplies the automotive and utility vehicle industries with high-quality solutions, especially in cable fastening and fluid ducts.
They were looking for ways to save weight for the production of a coolant duct. Together with the experts from AKRO-PLASTIC, they evaluated more sustainable alternatives for the originally used PA 6.6 GF30. They found what they were looking for in the newly developed AKROMID® B3 GF 30 4 L black (7481).
Based on a PA 6/PP blend, the material had already passed independently conducted reference tests for various OEM standards for cooling water applications initially designed for PA 6.6 GF 30.
Next, AKROMID® B3 GF 30 4 L black (7481) had to prove itself in various functional tests carried out directly on the component. It was indeed able to meet all the requirements for components in the cooling water circuit in accordance with the OEM test specifications.
Thanks to the unique combination of hydrolysis resistance, density reduction and the PA 6/PP polymer base, AKROMID® B3 GF 30 4 L black (7481) offers three advantages at once, especially regarding cooling circuits for electric vehicles:
resistance to cooling media (e.g., according to TL 52682, G12evo/water over 1,000 h at 135° C).
lower component weight and reduced CO2 footprint of PA 6/PP (increased sustainability)
better material availability (independent of PA 6.6)
For Stanley Engineered Fastening | Tucker GmbH three factors were decisive: the improved sustainability through the realised weight saving of 7 - 8% with comparable suitability of the material and the independence from PA 6.6 compounds. AKROMID® B3 GF 30 4 L black (7481) is not affected by its volatile availability due to the different polymer base.
