SPE AWARD 2022 - 21. SPE AUTOMOTIVE AWARD NIGHT
Two days before the start of K in Düsseldorf, SPE Central Europe will present the winners of the Automotive Awards 2022 at a glittering Award Night at the Crowne Plaza Hotel Neuss. With 45 components, 43 of which are eligible for competition, a new submission record has been set. The excitement among the representatives of the submitting companies is correspondingly great as to which parts will win the coveted prizes.

Der Abend beginnt mit der Vorstellung der in sieben Kategorien eingereichten Teile und Komponenten. Bei einigen Teilen sind alle überrascht von der letztendlich einfachen, weil logischen Lösung – nur der Weg dorthin ist oftmals alles andere als einfach.

First place in the "body exterior" category goes to the hybrid brake disc protector from KTM Technologies, which is manufactured using Conexus technology. This is a special joining process that bonds thermoplastics and thermosets together. A coupling film is joined to the thermoset in an isothermal hot pressing process and then back-injected with a bio-based polyamide, AKROMID® NEXT 5.10 3 GF 30 black (8467).
First place in the "chassis unit / structural component" category goes to Boge Elastmetall for the front transverse bridge of the Mercedes-Benz C-, E- and S-Class. The lightweight component features a unique material combination of plastic, AKROMID® B3 GF 60 1 black (4644), aluminum sheet and rubber bearings.

Fourth in the "electronical/optical parts" category is the fuse box housing from Interplex. Here, among other things, the material is AKROLOY® PARA ICF 40 black (6130).
Fifth place in the category "electronic/optical parts" went to an electric loading flap from Weber GmbH & Co. KG with our material AKROLOY® PA GF 60 black (6418).
The third sustainability award winner is Grammer's carrying arm for BMW vehicles. The carbon fibre reinforced PET (PRECITE® E ICF 30 black (7429)) is characterized by very high rigidity. Compared to the aluminum component, the CO2 footprint of the carbon fibre reinforced PET support arm is just one-eighth!
This year's Innovation Award goes to the Plastics Technology Laboratory of HS Osnabrück: they have developed a spin molding process that makes it possible to specifically influence the fiber and molecule orientation in the tangential direction. This makes it possible to produce components subject to internal pressure that, after immersion in a water-glycol mixture, have the same strength as components without a weakening weld line. Our material AKROMID® B3 GF 30 1 L black (4365) is used for this purpose.

The Automotive Division Award, which SPE Central Europe, section of the Society of Plastics Engineers Inc., has been organizing every six months since 1992, is well known in the industry for the high quality of the submissions and the objective evaluation criteria. The Automotive Award has been and continues to be supported by well-known companies in the plastics industry, this year Akro-Plastic GmbH, almaak international GmbH, DSM Engineering Plastics, EMS-Chemie AG, Grafe Advanced Polymers GmbH, Kuraray Co.
